Sliced restaurant is heaven on earth for sandwich lovers

If you’re a sandwich lover, there’s a great spot right by the Murano that you should try out. Sliced is located at650 Bay St., which used to be a motel.

Sliced is a family run business that cares about good food. Sandwiches are made fresh daily. There are no expiration dates, no preservatives or hormones in their ingredients.  Who wants boxed and packaged sandwiches when you can have the real deal?

Sandwiches may sound kind of boring, right? Not the sandwiches at Sliced though. The menu features some interesting options. The Lobster BLT ($12.75) consists of steamed lobster, bacon, lettuce, cherry tomato and avocado salsa. The Brick Lane Chicken ($8.75) is curry chicken mixed in with sultana raisins, cashews, mango and spinach. After a long night out, try the Hangover ($11.75) with omelette, smoked bacon, sausage, tomato and a signature sauce. That should do the trick.

This is but one of many hotspots around the Murano. If you would like to live in this thriving neighbourhood, feel free to contact us at (416) 929-1660 or email us at resupport@axoncapitalrealty.com. We would be happy to help you with your search for that perfect home.

Neighbourhood Perk: Fast food goes upscale at W Burger Bar

Image c/o tastyburgers.ca

10 College Street

(416) 961-2227

For those resistant to the mediocre fare of a standard greasy burger chain, W Burger Bar is a breath of fresh air.

This casual-modern restaurant sits at the corner of Yonge and College, usually packed and boasting a lively atmosphere. With contemporary dark furniture, light walls, and plenty of flat screen TVs playing live sports, the atmosphere is a fusion of fun and style.

W Burger Bar prides itself on using locally raised beef free of hormones and antibiotics; this attention to quality continues right down to the buns, which are preservative free and even come with a whole wheat option. Despite its higher quality approach to food, the menu is reasonably priced and puts other burger joints to shame, offering plenty of choices beyond the basic burger. Varieties range from the bison to lamb to portobello and even salmon, so there really is a burger to please everyone. Condiment lovers rejoice- you can pile them all on at W Burger Bar, since most come at no extra charge. Try out the unique chipotle ketchup or do something different with beets, jalapenos, or even tzatziki sauce.

For the anti-burger crowd, the restaurant offers other sandwiches like the chicken club ($9.99) or pulled pork ($7.99) and a surprisingly varied selection of salads are offered including Ontario goat cheese ($8.99) or steak & blue cheese ($12.99). Many people make the trip to W Burger Bar simply for the panko breaded onion rings – they are that good.

W Burger Bar certainly lives up to the ‘bar’ part of its name with impressive beer, wine, and cocktail offerings – including their unique spiked milkshakes. They have nine beers on tap including Sleeman, Guinness, and Sapporo in addition to bottled varieties. The signature ‘W’ cocktail ($9.99) mixes lime and grapefruit juices with gin and vodka for a winning combination. If you’re feeling really daring, try a 3-oz ‘fishbowl’ concoction! The bar also has weekly specials which include great deals on pitchers, so it’s a great start to a night on the town.

With quality food, fun, and a delicious veggie burger to boot – W Burger Bar is the obvious choice for condo dwellers in the area who want the convenience of casual food without sacrificing quality.

Meet Fran’s big sister: Screen Lounge

The College Street scene just got even better with the addition of an exciting new lounge situated just above Fran’s Restaurant, a Toronto institution that has always drawn hungry crowds for its legendary diner fare. Screen Lounge, the new project from the people behind Fran’s, provides a much-needed chillout space on College with a decidedly sophisticated attitude.

Screen Lounge goes in a completely different direction than the casual atmosphere downstairs, with a design and ambience perfect for young professionals. The two-level space features sleek dark brown booths, dark wood tables, and modern hanging lighting with red accents, which continue onto the patio with red and black furniture outside. At dusk, the patio is where vintage black and white films are screened- with popcorn to boot.

For drinks, Screen provides numerous draught beers, classic cocktails, and even signature drinks and home-made cocktail mixes. With a DJ on weekends, Screen is great for letting loose away from the traditional ‘club scene’. As far as food goes, Screen has a delicious-sounding menu that is a far cry from hash browns and scrambled eggs, offering innovative tapas dishes like beef short ribs, organic leek dumplings, pan-seared scallops, and a ‘Raw Bar’ with high-quality oversize sushi. If a casual afternoon get together is more your style, Screen also offers an inventive lunch menu featuring items like Kobe burgers and lobster melt sandwiches.

Screen is bringing the trendy nightlife scene of the downtown core up to College Street, and with Fran’s fantastic 24-hour breakfast downstairs to fulfill any post-party cravings, it seems like the perfect option for a night out in the Murano neighbourhood.

High Society at La Société

Courtesy of torontolife.com

La Société is Bloor Street’s newest and hippest bistro. Located on Bloor between Avenue and Bay, it is just a short walk from Murano.

Recently opened by Charles Khabouth and Danny Soberano, the red-carpet reception featured such illustrious guests as media mogul Moses Znaimer, Canadian music manager and producer Jake Gold, and Food Network Canada host Kevin Brauch. Since then, the bistro has already seen the likes of celebrities such as Ben Mulroney and Deepak Chopra.

Designed by munge-leung, the bistro attempts to replicate the feel of a 1920s Parisian bistro. The highlight of the décor is undoubtedly the 20-by-30ft handcrafted stained glass ceiling by Solarium Design Group.

The bistro features a bar area with generous stool seating, as well as intimate alcoves with plush banquettes. The bright light afforded by the large windows is contrasted with the dark walls surrounding the bar area. The walls are decorated with a special collection of prints, photographs and vintage frames in the style of a French bistro.

La Société also offers two outdoor spaces: one at street level, which provides for optimal people-watching on the Mink Mile, and another on the second level terrace overlooking the street. The terrace features simple rattan seating and small black tables. There are more than 300 seats in total.

The menu offers bistro classics, such as steak tartare ($16) and duck confit ($28), but executive chef James Olberg insists that the focus is on the seafood, all purchased fresh from Allseas Fisheries. Delicious examples include the oyster platters ($19 for a half-dozen) andDoversole ($44).

Do not miss out on this hip, delicious bistro! Just minutes away from Murano!
